We were back at Cornerstone Community Centre for our July meeting, with a small but enthusiastic group of CBN members. We welcomed Jess from the Brighton & Hove Food Partnership to her first CBN meeting. She gave us an update on the progress made to turn a former golf club on the South Downs into a thriving centre, now hosting regular community groups as well as one-off events.
Our agenda included a visit from a local surveyor whose work includes lease advice and valuation on community buildings. We learned about some of the main issues to consider when negotiating a lease on a community building, and we also had the opportunity to ask questions. Topics covered included repairing obligations, rent reviews, and break clauses. We know this is a topic which our members often find challenging to deal with, so we were delighted to be able to offer this opportunity.
Our next CBN meeting will be on Tuesday 12th November at Community Base.
