Martyn’s Law

The Terrorism (Protection of premises) draft Bill, also known as Martyn’s Law, aims to improve public safety by ensuring there is better preparedness for, and protection from, terrorist attacks. It is named in tribute to Martyn Hett who was killed alongside 21 others in the Manchester Arena terrorist attack in 2017. The Bill was included in the King’s Speech last autumn and will now progress through parliament to become law.

Martyn’s Law will have an impact on many public spaces and buildings, including community centres. Additional safety procedures and/or training may be necessary, the complexity of these will depend on the capacity of the building.
